“Since starting CrossFit in 2010, I have learned more about myself as an individual than the entire duration of my life. I grew up as a competitive equestrian focusing mostly on Dressage. When I was 16 years old, my horse was injured and I could no longer compete. It was hard to find a sport quite as rewarding as working with a horse. CrossFit found me at a point in my life when my self-esteem was near non-existent. The CrossFit community has shown me that beauty is not about what your body looks like, but rather, what it can do. CrossFit has given me strength, courage, stamina and an overall better understanding of who I am. Fitness has always been important to me, but CrossFit is so much more than fitness. It’s family. It’s a lifestyle. It’s much more rewarding than you can imagine. I challenge you to come out to our gym and see what your body is truly capable of.”

“Fitness, in a manner of speaking, has always played an important part in my life. In my late teens and early 20’s, I was a varsity Volleyball player at both High School and University level. I accumulated many humbling awards and accolades in my time as a varsity athlete, and had the privilege of playing with some of the most successful players in Canada. Following my sport career, I spent many years at traditional fitness facilities working through traditional programs and finding marginal and predictable results. After being introduced to a single CrossFit workout, the exhilaration and exhaustion had me hooked instantly. Since that ‘experience’, CrossFit has been a fundamental aspect of my life for over 5 years. I have had the pleasure of training with the community at CrossFit Biometrics in Fredericton, and obtained my L1 CrossFit certification in February 2014. The love, camaraderie and competition of the CrossFit community is, for me, nothing short of existential, and I consider myself extremely fortunate to facilitate the growth of CrossFit in Truro. Come and join us, I promise it will be one of the most exciting challenges of your life.”

“I joined CrossFit with my best friend when I was 38 and I really didn’t know what to expect. I am a wife, mother of two, have a full time job and needed something that would keep me interested while getting me in shape. CrossFit has done that and so much more. CrossFit workouts are different every single class so I am always engaged and always challenged but am never given more than I can handle. I am proud of what I have achieved since starting CrossFit. My endurance has increased dramatically and I’ve gotten stronger, mentally and physically, than I have ever been before. Something I did not expect to gain from CrossFit was the sense of community: someone getting a round of high fives after getting their first pull up, a group of members cheering an athlete on as they finish a particularly challenging workout, genuine happiness for your buddy who achieved a personal best, coming together to raise money as a group for a cause affecting a CrossFit community member, checking Facebook for updates from a gym member competing in a competition, and the list goes on. CrossFit is like nothing I’ve experienced before. I have never looked back.”

“CrossFit, that word meant something very different to me before I started practicing it. When people hear this word they may have the opinion that this is a radical, almost fringe activity involving crazy athletes doing crazy workouts that would destroy mere mortals. Wow are these people wrong, and so was I. CrossFit is a lifestyle, it is a passion and above all it is a focused, committed community of like minded individuals. Will you be the fittest that you have ever been in your whole life? You bet you will be if we have anything to say about it. However, you will also experience a bond of camaraderie that is hard to find in other aspects in life. Will you endure pain and suffering when doing a CrossFit workout? You bet. However, there is a great solace, a kind of quiet connection, when the person next to you is suffering and in as much duress as you are. They may be doing a scaled down version of the same workout that you are doing, but it does not mean that they are expressing any less intensity. It just means that they have not reached certain capabilities yet. In the end, though, everyone endures together. This is a special, beautiful bond that is hard to duplicate. That is what I now think of when I hear the word CrossFit. Our goal is to make everyone, be it old, young, large, small, male, female, forever fit or never fit, get a fleeting taste of how close this community can be. Once you get a taste, you will be forever changed. Oh, and you will be pretty darn fit as well!”

“The list of ways CrossFit has enriched my life are endless. Originally, when I was introduced to CrossFit it was just a fun way to lose a few pounds; I came to gain something much more valuable. I, like a lot of girls, have always struggled with body image issues. Through my CrossFit journey, I gradually learned to accept and love myself. I fell in love with feeling strong and became confident in my abilities. Mentally, I transformed and that is where the real change needed to happen. There was no comparison to the feeling that comes from pushing myself past the limits I had previously defined, it was exhilarating. I became proud of my accomplishments and this drastically altered my self-worth. This is only a small piece of what changed in my life because of CrossFit. I gained a family and became a member of a tight community. Words cannot express my gratitude for the people I have met thanks to CrossFit, they are the most genuine, motivating and supportive people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Surrounding myself with these people has, in turn, made me a better person. I have been inspired through this incredible experience and I am so excited to coach and help inspire others. CrossFit is more than worth stepping out of your comfort zone for and giving it a try. What do you have to lose? I encourage you to think of the possibilities and what you stand to gain.”

“I originally started Crossfit because I wanted to become a stronger volleyball player. I have become significantly stronger and more athletic, but the main reason I love Crossfit is the community. Everyone makes an effort to support you, not only on your fitness journey, but also in the other aspects of your life outside of the gym. This makes it easy to keep coming back since you know the people you are working out with care about you. Crossfit Hubtown has provided a place that challenges me, not only as an athlete, but as a person.”
